The Bike

May 22, 2018

The bike by the road which

Floated across the countryside, acquainted

With the hooves of horses plodding

Up and down the trodden grass, glistening

Underneath the shimmer of spring sun, rusting

That old bike ridden by the boy who

Now teenaged and devoted to motors which

Powered wheels to take him farther away

From his mother but also father whose

Cruel hands nobody escaped, hands which

Had built that bike now abandoned by

The boy who abandoned mother with

Heart wrenching pain tinged with hope that

He would return to the shimmering land and to

That bended road to reach that battered woman with

The hope of a future drenched in happiness from

The boy, his wife, and his baby who

Would ride that bike amongst happier days
